Shared expense splitter

Split shared expenses equally, by shares or percentages and calculate settlement payments.

YOUR WORKSPACEProcessed on your device

One currency per ledger. Split each expense equally, by shares or by percentages. Positive balances receive money; negative balances pay. Keep JSON to resume later.

2–20 unique names. Changing this list clears payers and custom allocations so you can review them again.

Allocation order: Alex · Blair · Casey. Use 0 to exclude someone from a shares/percentage split.

Expense 1

Rounding assigns leftover minor units by largest remainder; tied amounts use participant order. Suggested payments are not guaranteed to use the fewest transfers. CSV formula-like values are escaped for spreadsheets.

Nothing is saved automatically. JSON backups are readable, unencrypted files. Export before closing. PDFs support Latin, Greek and Cyrillic text.

How privacy works

How it works

Enter unique participant names and expenses in one currency. Select who paid each expense, choose equal, shares or percentages, calculate, then review every allocation and suggested payment before downloading.

Supported formats

2–20 participants, up to 100 expenses. CSV ledger, PDF report and versioned JSON backups. Currency precision follows the entered three-letter code.

Good to know

Positive expenses only; no currency conversion or bank connection. Largest-remainder rounding assigns every minor unit; ties use participant order. Suggested payments are not guaranteed to minimize the number of transfers.

Worked example

Before

Alex pays 60.00, split equally among Alex, Blair and Casey

After

Each owes 20.00; Blair pays Alex 20.00 and Casey pays Alex 20.00

For 1.00 split three ways, allocations are 0.34, 0.33 and 0.33 in participant order; the total remains exactly 1.00.

Check the split before settling

Shares are relative weights; percentages must total exactly 100. Use zero to exclude a participant from a custom allocation. Editing the participant list clears payers and custom weights so they can be reviewed again.

Troubleshooting

Why does one person owe an extra cent?

A minor currency unit cannot be split further. The largest fractional remainder receives it, with ties resolved by participant order. Review the exported per-expense allocations.

Common questions

Does a suggested payment move money?

No. This produces a settlement plan only. Review the ledger and arrange payment yourself. JSON backups preserve editable inputs; CSV/PDF are reports.

Can I use this without an internet connection?
