Supported formats
Up to 100 categories; CSV import headers category, kind, planned, actual with kind income or expense. UTF-8 CSV/TSV up to 1 MB / 150,000 characters. CSV, PDF and JSON output.
Good to know
One currency, nonnegative entered amounts and unique categories within each type. No bank connection, automatic categorization, currency conversion or tax calculation is included.
Worked example
Before
Actual income 3,200; housing 1,000; other spending 650
After
Actual income less actual expenses leaves a 1,550 balance
If other spending was planned at 500, its favorable variance is -150: it exceeded the plan.
Read the sign of a variance carefully
For income, actual minus planned is favorable variance. For expenses, planned minus actual is favorable variance. The balance is a summary of entered categories, not a verified bank balance.

Why does an expense show a negative variance?
Actual spending exceeded its planned amount. Negative favorable variance indicates the category moved against the plan.
